The Escher String Quartet leads off the 2021 edition of our Chamber Music Festival with a pair of works by two of the last century’s masters Bela Bartók (1881–1945) and Jean Sibelius (1865–1957). One of only a handful of chamber ensembles to receive an Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Escher Quartet has been praised for its “searching musicality, polished technique, and lyrical and expressive tone” (Aaron Keebaugh, Boston Classical Review). Bartók’s Quartet No. 6 for Strings, BB 119 and the Quartet in D minor for Strings, Op. 56, “Voces intimae” by Jean Sibelius.
