For Release: 8.25.17 Contact: Jaclyn Stevenson, Director of Public Relations, (518) 828-4181, ext. 3327 River Paintings by Marianna Van Lent Opens September 12 at The Foundation Gallery at C-GCC HUDSON, N.Y. – The Foundation Art Gallery at C-GCC will kick off the fall semester by opening River Paintings, a show featuring a series of landscape paintings by Marianne Van Lent that explore the imagery of the earth, its cycles, and psychology on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Van Lent, whose work is influenced by the Hudson River School and Northern European Romanticism, will present 22 individual works that explore the dream of place, sanctuary, and separation. She explained that many of the paintings have been inspired by a specific place or phenomenon occurring in nature; for example, the way light creates a previously unseen effect and color on a form. Both the Hudson River School and Northern European Romanticism art movements correspond nature to human emotional states, and the surfaces of Van Lent’s paintings further express those traits by employing Fresco-secco, an ancient technique through which paint is applied in undulating gestures and languid spans – creating an ephemeral quality that contrasts the earthy fresco beneath. Van Lent holds a BFA from Tyler School of Art and an MFA from Cornell University. She has been a professional painter working and showing since 1975, and has received many public art and private mural commissions, including for at SPARC, NYSCA, MTA Percent for Art, Artist’s Space, and Creative Time. River Paintings will be on display through October 6. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (518) 828-4181, Ext. 324, or visit Van Lent’s website at mariannevanlent.com.
