PS21 WINTER CELEBRATION | The Talea Ensemble performs Solstices at sundown in complete darkness

Celebrate the beginning of winter with Georg Friedrich Haas’s Solstices (2017), performed at sunset in complete darkness. Praised for their “verve and immaculate virtuosity” by The Washington Post, the Talea Ensemble guides audiences through an immersive and powerfully sensory musical experience. On the winter solstice, Talea will perform Georg Friedrich Haas’s Solstices for ten musicians in complete darkness. By subtracting light from our experience, Solstices adds a new lens to our ability to relate to sound, bringing together performers and audiences through intensive listening. An immersive work, Solstices amplifies the experience through microtones and overtones and evokes the natural phenomena of planetary movement. The performance begins at sunset, 4:26 PM, on the shortest day of the year, to mark the passage from autumn to winter.
