It’s been too long without Broadway; Here’s something to tide over theater geeks. Led by MacArthur Fellow flute soloist Claire Chase, “Pan” is described as a “celebration of the post-pandemic rebirth, nature and community” that details the life of the titular Greek deity and connects it to contemporary life. Live at PS21’s open-air Pavilion Theater on July 16th Directed by Doug Fitch, this piece uses seven tableaux to explore the life of the god Pan, one of only two Greek deities said to have been put to death. The piece calls on community members to appear on stage with Claire Chase to evoke Pan’s spirit by playing bamboo chimes, ocarinas, tuned wine glasses and more. The experience and creative participation attempt to demonstrate, rather than speculate, how music-making allows for societies and communities to create together.
