The Hudson Area Library will welcome Hudson Mayor Tiffany Martin Hamilton to the library’s summer reading program on Friday, July 15 at 10:30am. The mayor will speak with the children about various aspects of her job, the importance of civic engagement, and reading enjoyment. The children will be able to ask questions and discuss concerns with her. This is a very special event in the library’s summer reading guest speaker series. Marlene Parmentier, teacher at Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School, and Janice Scali, the Hudson Area Library children’s librarian, have planned a mix of reading, activities, field trips, and guest speakers for the summer. The summer reading program runs Tuesday – Friday 10am – 12pm. The Meet the Mayor event is open to all children interested in this unique opportunity. The library plans to continue the Meet the Mayor Series in the fall for intermediate, junior and high school students. There are also plans to expand to “Meet the Police Chief” as well as other civic leaders. “We want to thank the mayor and police chief for their interest in participating,” said Brenda Shufelt, Program Director at the library. Children of all ages and their families are invited. Refreshments will follow the event.
