In conjunction with our current exhibit, Hudson: A History of Whaling & Maritime Commerce, we are offering a Teacher Workshop taught by educators Brenda Shufelt and Elaine Eichelberger and co-sponsored by the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center, with 2 CTLE credits. This is a unique opportunity to look at our city, county, state, and national history through the lens of local history. Hudson has always been a “whaling town” in the collective imagination of people in the area and it has helped form our shared identity. When students learn about their own local history, the streets they walk on, the river they visit, they will be motivated to learn and will be able to better contextualize Social Studies concepts and facts. This workshop aims to give educators an opportunity to share this with their students. There will also be tie-ins to Language Arts and Art Education. Includes digital and physical resource materials on the topic for all participants and light breakfast.
