The Hudson Area Library General Reading Book Group meets Wednesdays 5-6pm and is reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens on September 25, and Less by Andrew Sean Greer on October 23. This monthly group covers fiction and nonfiction and is facilitated by long time member of the Friends of the Hudson Area Library, Sharon Getty. To register for this book group email programs@hudsonarealibrary.org. The New York Times Book Review describes Where the Crawdads Sing as “A painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature….Owens here surveys the desolate marshlands of the North Carolina coast through the eyes of an abandoned child. And in her isolation that child makes us open our own eyes to the secret wonders—and dangers—of her private world.” The Guardian review describes Less: “Pulitzer-winning satirical novel tracks a lovelorn writer on a cathartic voyage of self-discovery.” In its 2017 review The Washington Post says, “Less is the funniest novel you’ll read this year.” These books are all available for borrowing through the Mid-Hudson Library System. The Hudson Area Library is located at 51 North Fifth Street in Hudson, NY. The mission of the library is to enrich the quality of life by providing free and equal access to programs, services and resources, and by creating opportunities for all members of our community to connect, create, learn and grow.
