Join Shaker Museum for an evening presentation on the life of Mother Ann Lee, founder of American Shakerism. While women held little stature in 18th-century England, a young woman named Ann Lee came to prominence as a spiritual leader in a movement that came to be known as the United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, more commonly called Shakers. Just who was Ann Lee? Who did the Shakers say she was? How did the outside world describe her? Who do you think she is? Using the recent film The Testament of Ann Lee as a starting point, Collections Manager Sharon Duane Koomler will provide a short, illustrated presentation and show several objects from the collection connected with Mother Ann that Shakers gifted to the Museum’s founder, John Williams. Participants are encouraged to watch The Testament of Ann Lee in advance of the lecture, but all are welcome to join in taking a closer look at this remarkable woman who created meaningful community.Join Shaker Museum for an evening presentation on the life of Mother Ann Lee, founder of American Shakerism.
