A Night of Neo-Benshi, Flow Chart Cabaret Cinema

HUDSON, NY: July 25, 2024 – Flow Chart Cabaret Cinema: A Night of Neo-Benshi returns for its fourth year of cult film-meets-live-performance — served cabaret-style! — at Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House. Co-presented by The Flow Chart Foundation, A Night of Neo-Benshi is a treat for cinephiles, linguaphiles, and those who love a dash of poetry, wine, and hilarity with their filmgoing experience.   
“Neo-benshi” artists — named after 19th century Japanese silent film interpreters (called “benshi” in Japanese) –— replace dialogue in scenes from popular films with their own voice-overs, dialogue, poetry, or other creative interpretations. From cult classics to new blockbusters, the results run the gamut from absurdist comedy to moments of profound insight.
