SUMMARY:NEW Parent Child Academy at the Hudson Area Library
DESCRIPTION:The Hudson Area Library will be holding a 5-week Parent Child Academy dedicated to fostering literacy and language development in children from birth to five years old. The primary focus of the Academy is to empower parents as the first and most important teachers in their children's lives. The Academy will provide a friendly environment in which to learn about family activities that will build children's literacy in their daily home lives. These activities\, and the resources provided by the Academy\, will help prepare children to learn to read and write when they enter Kindergarten. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Children's activities by our AmeriCorps workers for ages 2+ will be available in the library while parents attend a workshop and discussion session. Van transport\, courtesy of the Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood\, will be provided for families that request it. There will be free books and prizes given away each Saturday. Katherine Mabb\, the academy facilitator\, has extensive training and experience working with young children and their parents on developing early literacy skills. In addition\, Abby Lappen\, early childhood educator in music and movement\, will be a guest teacher as the community of parents learns about developing literacy through singing and playing. For further information and to sign up email brenda.shufelt@hudsonarealibrary.org\, call 518-828-1792 x101 or stop by the Hudson Area Library.
